Ruth H. Hobbs - Our Artist
Ruth H Hobbs, originally from Ayr, Scotland, graduated from Ardrossan Academy at the age of 16. She apprenticed as a designer for the prestigious Templeton Carpet Company in Glasgow and furthered her learning by studying textile-art and design at Cardonald College. In 1978 she set out on a, two-year, global adventure through Australia and Europe. Upon her returning to Scotland in 1980, she attended James Watt College where she commenced her formal education in the Fine Arts.
In November of 1980 she seized an opportunity to immigrate to the United States. Her port of entry to her "New World" was New Orleans, Louisiana where she enrolled at the University of New Orleans, College of Art. In 1987 she completed a degree in Commercial Art and Advertising at Texas State Technical College. Four years later she attended The University of Nebraska to study Premed and Fine Art Studio and graduated summa cum laude in 1996.
Until 2000 she was enrolled at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha and devoted much time working with Nebraska AIDS Project and, later, at the HIV clinic of Special Health Resources in Longview, Texas. In September, 2001 Ruth and her two, young children reunited with her beloved husband and soul mate, Steve, in Temecula, California. They reside there today.
Ruth's career path has been diverse but she has forever been an artist. She has exhibited and sold her paintings and serigraphs in both Europe and the United States and has been the recipient of several awards. In recent years she chose to divert much of her energy into developing K-12, art and music, education programs; assisting small to medium art organizations; procuring gallery and performance venues, and organizing at-risk youth art activities in Temecula and throughout Riverside County. During her employment with The Arts Council of Temecula Valley she became an integral part of the art community and played a pivotal role in procuring thousands of dollars in funding for community art programs.
How would I describe my path in life? I have taken “the other road in (the) yellow wood… And that has made (and will continue to make) all the difference.”
